Cinquante ans après sa construction, les services culturels de l’Université de Rennes1 et du CROUS Rennes Bretagne ont invité en résidence le photographe Marc Loyon, dont la démarche artistique porte sur le paysage, les ensembles architecturaux. A une époque où le campus de Beaulieu connait une forte évolution liée aux nécessités de rénovation des résidences comme des bâtiments universitaires, à la modification du territoire (construction de la ligne B de métro), cette résidence photographique était l’occasion non pas d’un strict inventaire mais d’un regard subjectif sur les lieux, imprégné d’une grande empathie pour toutes les personnes croisées et photographiées (étudiants, personnels du CROUS et de l’Université). De cette résidence nait une invitation à déambuler entre les cités U et sur le campus de Beaulieu, à s’imprégner de grands formats en extérieur et à voir une exposition au Diapason, lieu culturel de l’Université de Rennes1.
L’édition De la hauteur prolonge la narration photographique de Marc Loyon, et offre l’opportunité de s’imprégner encore plus de sa capacité à saisir une réalité de terrain où se croisent les regards des personnes rencontrées et celui qu’il porte sur des fragments architecturaux et paysagers. C’est un livre d’artiste qui invite le lecteur à une réflexion sensible sur l’espace universitaire et son évolution.

Fifty years after its construction, the cultural services of the University of Rennes 1 and the CROUS Rennes Bretagne invited photographer Marc Loyon, whose artistic approach focuses on the landscape and architectural ensembles, to take up a residency. At a time when the Beaulieu campus is undergoing major changes linked to the need to renovate residences and university buildings, and to the modification of the territory (construction of metro line B), this photographic residency was an opportunity not just for a strict inventory, but for a subjective look at the place, imbued with great empathy for all the people we met and photographed (students, CROUS and university staff). This residency gave rise to an invitation to wander between the cités U and the Beaulieu campus, to immerse oneself in large format outdoor photographs and to see an exhibition at the Diapason, the cultural venue of the University of Rennes1.
De la hauteur extends Marc Loyon’s photographic narrative, and offers the opportunity to become even more immersed in his ability to capture a reality on the ground, where the views of the people he meets intersect with his own view of architectural and landscape fragments. It is an artist’s book that invites the reader to a sensitive reflection on the university space and its evolution.
